A life in research: Challa Vijayalakshmi

Dr.
Vijayalakshmi was born into a musically rooted family to Challa Anasuyadevi and
Challa Krishnamurthy Sastry. Her father, a dedicated Carnatic music teacher,
sustained the family through his teaching, living a life deeply anchored in
music.
Originally
from Antarvedipalem in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, the family
moved in search of better opportunities—first to Palivela, where he began
teaching, and later to Rajahmundry, likely drawn by greater exposure to
concerts and a wider student base. For a brief period, he also served as a
music instructor in a gurukula pathasala, earning a reputation as a
compassionate and dedicated guru.
