Birth Centenary of S.V. Seshadri (Aeolus)
The birth centenary of S.V. Seshadri, fondly remembered by his pen name Aeolus, was celebrated on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mini Hall, Mylapore. The morning began with a concert of select compositions of S.V. Seshadri, presented by the Shwetaranyam Sisters, R. Nithya and R. Vidhya. They were ably supported by S.P. Ananthapadmanabha on the violin and J. Vaidyanathan on the mridangam.
Following the concert, the gathering turned to reflections on Seshadri’s contributions as a critic, educator, littérateur and composer. Information consultant and open access advocate S. Arunachalam, dance critic, writer and speaker Ashish Mohan Khokar, renowned dancer and choreographer Malavika Sarukkai, and V. Ramnarayan, former editor of Sruti, paid warm tributes that captured both his intellectual rigour and his lyrical sensibility.
A highlight of the celebration was the release of two publications brought out to mark the centenary. The Cave of Aeolus, a compilation of Seshadri’s critiques and reviews in English, and Ganeshanum Maheshanum, a Tamil commentary on the Vinayakar Agaval and 108 verses on Lord Siva, were received with appreciation as fitting tributes to his legacy.
