Saptaswara devata: Ni

Ni’ denotes the swara ‘nishada’ which is the seventh in the swarasaptaka (the seven-swara arrangement) of our music. The term ‘nishada’ is etymologically explained as ‘nisheedanti swaraa asmin’—that which marks the finale of the (arrangement) of swaras; thus echoing the placement of the swara in the gamut of seven.
