Sani – Saturn

The article on Sani or Saturn is the seventh in the series on S. Rajam’s paintings on Muthuswami Dikshitar’s navagraha kriti-s. One of the navagraha-s, Sani is the Lord of Saturday. The word ‘Sani’ is derived from Sanaye kramati sa: (one who moves slowly), as Saturn takes about 30 years to revolve around the sun, residing in each zodiac sign for 30 months.
