S. Rajam’s painting
Muthuswami Dikshitar’s Navagraha kriti-s are
individual compositions on the planets in the ancient Indian scheme and are
considered the high watermark of inspiration and creativity. Similarly, artist
S. Rajam’s paintings of the navagraha-s, in addition to their artistic value,
incorporate most of what has been said about the navagraha-s in Indian
mythology, music literature and Hindu iconography – quite a rare feat. In this
issue we begin a new series on S. Rajam’s paintings of the navagraha-s.
