Music and dance exquisitely sculpted

The Dhenupuriswarar temple at Madambakkam, a small suburb close to Tambaram, is one of the oldest Chola temples in the city of Chennai. It probably dates back to the time of Parantaka Chola II, also known as Sundara Chola (956 - 973 AD) as an inscription of his reign has been found in this place. It is likely that this temple was rebuilt in stone during the later Chola period. In front of the apsidal-shaped central shrine is a multi-pillared mandapa of later times, belonging to the Vijayanagara style of architecture.
