SUMMIT MEETING ON ANDHRA DANCE TRADITIONS

A
summit meeting on
Andhra dance traditions--a sort of G-12 meeting—was held 27-31 January
in Hyderabad, under the auspices of the central Sangeet
Natak Akademi (SNA) with
the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Billed
as Nrityotsava, this was the
first of a series of festivals the
Sangeet Natak Akademi has
planned to conduct with a view
to exploring, documenting and
supporting the classical dance
heritage of Andhra Pradesh.
This heritage of the region
antedates Kuchipudi, though
the latter is the best known
dance-form now.
