LAYAALAYAM FESTIVAL IN DELHI

The Parampara series—the annual festival of dance and music organised by Natya Tarangini, the 29 year-old institution devoted to Koochipoodi and run by Raja, Radha and Kausalya Reddy, has become a major event in the cultural calendar of the Capital. Significantly, it also reflects the progress, rather the vertical growth, of the 'odd man out' in the female-oriented dance scene, and more so in Delhi. Hailing from an agricultural family in Andhra, Raja ventured into a very much nontraditional field with limited natural endowments normally considered necessary for the vocation.
