DANCE CREATIVITY WITHIN TRADITION- AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE MAS

A three-day programme consisting of a symposium and a series of performance sessions was organised in Delhi in November 1994 by the India International Centre, in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Department of Culture of the Human Resource Development Ministry of the Government of India. It featured Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra in Odissi, Birju Maharaj in Kathak and M.K. Saroja in Bharatanatyam. The initiative had been taken mainly by three concerned dancers active in the contemporary scene: Alarmel Valli, Leela Samson and Madhavi Mudgal.
