DANCE CREATIVITY WITHIN TRADITION- AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE MAS

A
three-day programme
consisting of a symposium and a series of performance sessions was organised
in Delhi in November 1994
by the India International
Centre, in collaboration with
the Sangeet Natak Akademi
and the Department of Culture of the Human Resource
Development Ministry of the
Government of India. It featured Guru Kelucharan
Mohapatra in Odissi, Birju
Maharaj in Kathak and M.K.
Saroja in Bharatanatyam. The
initiative had been taken
mainly by three concerned
dancers active in the contemporary scene: Alarmel Valli,
Leela Samson and Madhavi
Mudgal.
