Through this Summer Camp, we want your child to discover his/ her personal connection with music by exposing the child to a wide spectrum of music related activities.

Musical Instruments in Divinity

Under the Production Grant, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, Violinist Dr M Lalitha Senior Violinist, Musician & Fulbright Fellow, (of the Duo M. Nandini), has been presenting a series of episodes on `Musical Instruments in Divinity’- a thematic Multimedia presentation featuring different instruments each month. This series involves extensive research and in depth study since Dr M Lalitha deals about the History, evolution of the instrument, Mythological, Sculptural evidences, its usage in temple rituals, similarities in global musical cultures, references in Literature and some in musical compositions. The instruments so far covered include the Vina, Venu, Gethuvadyam, Mridangam, Mridanga – Khol, Chenda, Chande, Tutari, Srnga, Kombu, Jewish Shofar, Damaru, Udukkai, Nagasvaram, Kanjira / Frame drums of the world, Panchamukha Vadyam, Mizhavu, Ghatam, Pot Shaped instruments of the World, Hew’s harp, Tiruchinnam, Mukha Vina, Timila and edakka. This month as part of the twelfth episode on Sunday April 19th 2015 the instruments to be featured will be `Violin and bow shaped instruments of the World including Esraj, Dilruba and Sarangi’ at the Arkay Convention Centre, 146/3 R.H.Road, 3rd floor, OMS Lakshana, Chennai 600004.from 6.30 PM Legendary Vocalist / Double Violin Maestro SHENKAR (AKA DR L Shankar), (Twice grammy / Oscar winning Vocalist / Violinist / composer) will be the Chief Guest.
